The Past . . .
The Idaho State Civic Symphony is the oldest orchestra in the State of Idaho. While the symphony was established early in the 1900s, The Idaho State Civic Symphony Association was incorporated in 1954, receiving 501(c)3 status.
The Present . . .
Today, The Idaho State Civic Symphony Association is a non-profit organization, governed by a 30-member volunteer board of directors, and includes a Music Director/Conductor, a 60 to 65 member orchestra, a Manager, the Friends of Symphony, a student properties manager, a librarian, and a webmaster.
The Symphony's concert season consists of four classical concerts and a Pops concert.
A Great Future . . .
On April 20, 2005, the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center, new home of The Idaho State Civic Symphony, opened on the campus of Idaho State University: a 110,000 square-foot edifice of classic design, with a hub-and-spoke arrangement centered on a large rotunda lobby, which hosts receptions and meetings, and also includes galleries for artwork and exhibits.
The spokes serve as promenades from the rotunda lobby to the performance venues: a 1,100-seat concert hall, a 450-seat state-of-the-art thrust stage theatre, and a 200-seat "black box" theatre. The new $25 million center also houses the Idaho State University theatre department offices, a box office, rehearsal rooms, and shops.
. . . And A Timeless Mission
"To develop and promote a symphony orchestra which performs musical programs of the highest artistic quality that enriches our cultural community."
